Why my own replies in Yedda are counted as ...

It's a good point, there are several different needs we're trying to satisfy, and I'm not sure that we have right now is the best compromise.

You are right, sometimes you replies to someone else are not answers - they could be comments, clarifications or even actual questions.

But sometimes they are - I could post a follow-up reply on your answer to a question, adding a detail which you omitted from your answer.

The opposite is also true - you could post a reply to someone's question which in fact is not an answer, but a comment or a request for clarification.

So, when is it an answer and when not?

I like Vadim's suggestion, or some variation on it. On the one hand, the simplicity of callling anything you type in response to something you saw an "answer" works semantically, in English; but on the other hand, when Yedda claims to provide "answers," the promise is not fulfilled by comments and clarifications.

I like the idea of allowing the posting person to say, "This is an answer."

I understand the logic behind this, in fact, in our initial versions we differentiated between answers, comment & request for clarifications. We removed this because we felt that it creates unnecessary complication for the user. 

At this point I feel that request for clarification may be too much, but how do you feel about adding a way to specify if your post is an answer or a comment? We could add this below the editor box (which appears when you hit reply), with the default being answer.

You can use the thumbs up / down to let us know what you think - thumbs up if you like this, thumbs down if you think this will complicate the experience without bringing too much value.  

I like the way CodeProject let's you specify which kind of post this is, And I think you should do the same. My suggestion:

1. Have 3 options: Answer, Comment, Question (Question sounds so much better than "request for clarification").
2. Have semi-intelligent defaults
3. • When answering the original poster (OP), my default should be "answer".
   • When the OP selects "I found the answer", then his default should be "answer" too.
   • In all other cases the default should be "comment" 
4. "Question" may be used by the OP when he needs clarification and replies to that post will be marked as "answer" by default.
5. Consider only allowing the OP to mark a post as "question".
6. Consider giving more weight to ratings made on a "answer" than on a "comment".
7. Consider filtering by answers\all.

Your suggestion sounds good.

The term "question" may be confusing though, I feel that it's better to reserve this to The Question.

(BTW Eyal, we fixed that issue you reported, about the Enter key not doing what you expected it to do - so now you can stow away your mouse again )

Do you mean there could be some checkbox to defind what kind of answers we make? So, for example, we won't need to be notified for a comment?That could be a good thig.
