In what year is the Dune story suppose to happen ?

When I was younger I enjoyed the beautiful science fiction book "Dune" , I was talking with a friend the other day and we tried to remember how many years from now is the story suppose to happen.

An appendix indicates that the time of Paul Atreides is at least 14,000 years in the future, by which time much of current history has been lost, although some cultural and religious traditions remain.
