It is undoubtedly "Two thousand eight" (although the capital T is two-thousand depends whether or not is the beginning of a new sentence which by the way would be very rare since there is no punctualtion in a formal invitation except for Mr. Mrs. Dr., etc.). That, is proper English. the other way is adapted American.
