Can I get a VISA for the UK before getting a job? Basically, do I need to have the job set before they'll approve my VISA for UK? Also, do you know of any employers that want U.S. employees that are willing to sponsor work permit? Thanks
Always know what you want.
Contact an immigration attorney to know for sure if you need the visa before you can find a job or if it's just the opposite. I'm not personally familiar with companies that are looking to sponsor overseas workers but you can always try to post your resume on monster.com or careerbuilder.com and see if any companies in your field of work contact you.

Hi,
You can apply for the UK Tier 1 (General) Visa. This is a self sponsored visa. You do not need an employer to get you this visa. To qualify for this visa, you need to score at least 75 points under the following attributes
1. Age
2. Education
3. Past Earnings
Once you get this visa, you can come to UK and start searching for jobs. You can work for any employer in UK.
Hope that helps.
Regards,
