If I've had a stomach bug for the past few days, is it OK to still go to my aerobic kick-boxing class? I think I've lost some weight and I'm afraid that maybe I'll get too skinny or that it'll make me more sick if I go. I also haven't been eating that much... a little for each mean, but not that much. However, I don't want to break my routine. What should I do?
Absolutely do NOT go work out! Usually when you get sick it is your body telling you to slow down and take a break. You need to rest and get better and then you can start eating right and working out again. I hope you feel better soon!

I would check with my doctor; if he (she) gives the OK, then I see no reason not to resume your workouts. If you have lost a lot of weight (say, 10-20 lbs.) I wouldn't resume them until you've got enough weight back. More importantly, if you haven't been eating, I would definitely wait until your appetite has returned, and you are feeling completely A-OK. More importantly is whether you are dehydrated. Exercise when in a state of dehydration and a messed-up electrolyte balance can be extremely dangerous. Also, let your exercise instructor know that you have been sick; he can watch you more closely should something untoward happen (say, you pass out).
Good luck in your return to your exercise program.

Hi,
When you have a stomach bug the main problem is dehydration. In your case, you haven't been eating that much and therefore your energy levels will be low. I would give yourself a few more days to recuperate, even at the expense of breaking your routine. Try drinking a lot and eating foods that are easy to digest.
Hope you feel better.
