I was wondering why the baseball kept getting bigger.

Then it hit me.

Best wood to use with Radiant floor heat? Woods to avoid?

With regard to radiant floor heating systems, I understand that it can be used with wood flooring. I have also seen warnings of "making sure your wood won't warp or crack". No wood flooring product that I'm aware of specifies it's compatibility with radiant floor heat, so I'm wondering if there are certain species of wood that are known to be better than others as far as undergoing frequent temperature changes and/or a wider range of temperatures.

According to 2 different wood suppliers in Springfield, MO area, you would be better off with a narrower width board for stability purposes.  Solid wood will work.  Most likely it depends on the system type and manufacturer being used.  They should have lots of information to give you concerning wood types and installation.  If the company cannot supply the info, look for another company that will.

When it comes to wood flooring, there are many different types and species of wood available. Sometimes it can even get difficult to select the best wood flooring material. You can read all about wood flooring in following article: Wood Flooring

Most manufacturers prefer preengineered wood over solids for radiant heat.  They are more dimensionally stable.  Follow manufacturer guidelines.  I have seen one manufacturer exclude a particular species-- and another allow it.  Always follow manufacturer instructions to keep your warranty valid
