Why won't my Lawnmower work?

I have a brand new Lawnmower (Troy-Bilt) that I've only used 5 times. Now it's not working! The gas is full, as well as the oil. Any ideas what's going on? I misplaced the receipt, and spent about $300 on this machine.

Replacing the "spark plug" would be the easiest and cheapest thing to start with. They cost under $5. A common problem on modern lawnmowers is that (safety) grip that you need to hold down to start and if you let go of it the lawnmower stops running. That thing you hold down on the handle has a steel cable that to to the side of the LM's engine. If your lawnmower is starting, but running rough. It's most likely the spark plug need to be REPLACED not cleaned. If your lawnmower wont start check that "squeeze safety bar". Make sure the cable hasn't broke or check to where it connects to the engine. It may be that the cable slipped out of position, loosened. If that cable looks ok, check where it connects to the motor to be sure it is moving the safety bar's connection COMPLETELY. P.S. I have a Troy-Built riding lawnmower it's 19 years old this summer. Still runs like the day I bought it. In all that time I have only had to replace 1 belt and 2 cables! Less than $50 in parts and never in a service shop. I expect it to last another 10 years or so. Check that cable CLOSELY.

Did you leave gas in it when you put it away for the winter?  Then check the carburetor for sludge or gunk from the evaporated gas, and sticking parts.  Usually a quick cleaning will get everything back to normal.
