From the same reason that man like cars they are thought to like certain gender compatible objects since they are young.

Women who are marked by sociaty as fashion lovers do tend to find more intrest in shoes more them man.

there is no biological predisposition by woman to like feet ornament, view this article it is very enlightening.

Its hard to be a Marshmallow in a world of Pretzel Sticks

I don't think I can answer for women in general, but I know why I like shoes so much - because they were the one thing that fitted!

Finding clothes that fitted - never mind looked good - was a real ordeal when I was younger (still somewhat of an ordeal now, but I'm working on that), and my substitute indulgence to clothes was shoes; since I could count on them to fit, and feet size in general is less discriminatory than clothes size.

I could be generalising here, but perhaps women are 'trained' from a young age to like shoes and clothes and makeup, while men are trained to like cars and guns and boogers(!)

I would add to the said above that shoes are my favorite accesories  . Unlike men we like to fit our shoes to our clothes therefore being a "fashion lover" with a good taste, we have a lot of shoes that fit certain clothes.

I don't think all women are shoe lovers, I know that I couldn't care less and mostly  want comfortable shoes that I can walk in for a long time without having aches in my feet.

I think it's one of those perpatuating  stigmas - women are supposed to like shoes and so to match the idea of what a woman should be, they do. I've seen a lot of boys being encourage to like cars and sports and so this becomes their hobby later in life. I also saw a lot of boys beling pulled away from liking dolls or painting or other hopbbies that are considered more girly.

I think that a lot of time parents brag in their child matching the gender stereotype  ("He liked cars since he was born" or "She's so pretty") and the children, not wanting to dissapoint the parents tend to follow that lead.

No day in which you learn something is a complete loss.

My theory is similar to Mmmarshmallow's. I think that since shoes fit even if you gained a few pounds is a big factor. Besides, the simple fact that shoes is something you can plainly see at your feet all day long is another factor. If you want to look at something you are wearing you have to find a mirror.
