Is this a wisdom tooth?

I occasionally have TMJ neuralgia (night-time jaw clenching leading to severely sore muscle at the top of the jaw, by the ears), but it's usually only the tmj muscle that hurts. Recently the backs of my gums hurt and are tender (this is a first), and I'm wondering if this is from clenching and grinding, or whether I'm getting my wisdom teeth (I'm 20).

I know the only way to be sure is to see a dentist, but as I'm in school, I can't see my dentist for another month, so I just want to know how to deal with this in the meantime; as a side effect of one problem, or as a whole new problem.

Sounds like your wisdom teeth are coming in. Until you can get to a dentist, you should get something for the pain. You can get a gel ( I think it's called Ambasol or something like that) to put on your gums when you start feeling pain. They sell at any drugstore like CVS or Walgreen's. It will numb the area and lessen the pain for the next month until you can see a dentist.
