Can wisdom teeth cause ear aches?

I've been having some slight ear aches recently. A doctor checked me and said everything was OK, and suggested that it could be something with my jaw joints and not my ears. He gave me some cream that didn't help at all. Now I think that maybe it has something to do with wisdom teeth -- I think the top wisdom teeth are very close to the ears, no? Is it possible that the nearest tooth is causing me pain in the ear?

I was late for work this morning, because I got stuck in Zeno's paradox

Wisdom teeth appear relatively late, and in many cases there is not enough space for them to grow, so they grow sideways or become impacted. This can cause pain at the back of the mouth, near the joint of the jaw. Since this is close to the ear, the pain often radiates towards the ear, and is mistaken for ear ache.

If you think your ear ache may be caused by teeth or jaw problems, I suggest that you see a dentist ASAP.

Thanks Mack. I wasn't sure it was possible, I never was really convinced about this radiation thing. I'll call my dentist.

Wisdom teeth, also known as third molars are the last teeth to erupt. This occurs usually between the ages of 17 and 25. Although controversial, it is generally suggested that teeth that remain completely buried or un-erupted in a normal position are unlikely to cause harm. However, if these impacted teeth are in an abnormal position (a dentist can show you this on an x-ray), their potential for harm should be assessed. A tooth may become impacted due to lack of space in the dental arch and its eruption is therefore prevented by gum, bone, another tooth etc…
In general, what you describe may well be related to wisdom (or any other) teeth however it might NOT as well. Valuable medicine is done "face to face" (what is your age, medical details etc…) and a MANDATORY prerequisite is to be examined by a doctor!!! Giving you any advice without examine you is futile. So I would: wish you'll be well soon and go see a doctor ASAP

I've seen a doctor before I asked the question here, and he checked my ear and didn't find anything wrong with it. The aches have almost completely disappeared in the last few days. I called my dentist and asked if they have a record of my treatments, but they don't, and I really can't remember which of my wisdom teeth are still there. I think I'll just wait and see if the pain comes back, and if it does I'll see my dentist.

Thanks for your answers.
