Life's too short for excessive compromise... maximize everything!

American Indian or Indian from India?

If it is the latter, the only perception I have seen is that there are a high number of Indians that do not drink alcohol.

Of those that do drink, I have seen no discernible difference in likes/dislikes than any other ethnicity.

Besides, what would be the purpose of listing "perceptions" in a public forum?

4 thumbs up

I have an extensive retail wine sales background in the United States.  Indian customers (ones who have emigrated to the US or are visiting, as opposed to those who were born here and are ethnically Indian) tend to be in a higher income bracket than most liquor store customers (many are professionals: doctors, lawyers, engineers).  Their tastes vary as much as anyone's, but as a general rule are the customers looking for nicer wines in the high teens and low twenty dollar range as opposed to the $8.99 or lower value shoppers.  Very few of my Indian customers buy wines under $6 (in fact I can't think of any of them).

I cannot speak to Indians in India, although the trade press says India's growing affluence is leading to rapidly growing wine sales (though India still accounts for a very small portion of the international wine market).

I am not aware of a particularly strong aversion to alcohol in Indian culture (no more so than in the US, where 50% do not drink any alcohol according to Market Watch).  Due to extremely high taxes on imported spirits, luxury Scotch and bourbon is extremely expensive in India.  Many of my customers visiting from India buy high-end brown liquors to take home.

**LYRICS** Oh, I'm walkin' through the city It's lonely heartbreak streets The wind gives a chill And the sun begins to weep Oh, I don't know where I'm goin' And I don't know where I've been But the night's coming down And I'm feeling good again Cheap wine And cheaper women Oh, give me cheap wine And cheaper women and I may I had myself a lady To hold me tight and warm To keep out the cold And make love 'till the dawn She loved me tender And she loved me sweet But then she kicked me out And now I'm on the street Cheap wine And cheaper women Ooh, give me cheap wine And cheaper women, oh yeah Women come and go They never do remain They take more than they give But it's me who's to blame I'm at the bottom of the bottle And nothin's all I got Yeah, it may not be the answer But it sure does hit the spot Cheap wine And cheaper women Oh, give me cheap wine And cheaper women, oh yeah Oh, give me cheap wine And cheaper women, oh yeah I said, give me cheap wine, yeah And cheaper women, oh yeah Oh, give me cheap wine
