Hi There!First of all 1974 is only 34 years ago so did you intend 1973?In any case, 73 and 74 were both good years in France (best in Burgundy - Pinot) with 73 being the better of the 2 years. In both cases the bottles are in jeopardy of being past prime so you take a significant risk of paying a large sum of money for a potentially bad bottle of wine, unless you can get a money back guarantee!Spain's Rioja area had a pretty decent year in both 73 and 74 as well if he likes tempranillo, and if you can find a reputable dealer it could be a viable choice.Italy is perhaps your best bet, as Veneto had an excellent year in 73 which would include wines like Amarone and Valpolicella.Bottom line is that a 35 year old bottle of wine includes risk, there will most likely be a hefty price tag, and you will have difficulty finding a bottle from that year which will narrow your choices.I hope that helps and I would be interested in hearing how your search evolves. If I can be of any further assistance, please feel free to contact me.Cheers,SteveThe Wine Snob
