I would like to get a really nice bottle of wine for a friend. I know he prefers red but I don't know what kind. I would like to spend $75 - $100. What would you recommend?

I would recommend checking out this wine

website. It has a list of wines in different price ranges. My personal favorite amoung red wines is cabernet sauvignon. Last time I was in the states I tried one called Chateau Monetelena Estates. It is a great one from Napa Valley that is reasonably priced. You can find a description and price listing on the website. I hope this helps!

Life's too short for excessive compromise... maximize everything!

Sorry for the delay and I hope I am not too late, got bombardd with questions for the holidays.. I guess Yedda really works!  I noticed a recommendation for Chateau Montelena (I have an awful lot of it), which is always a safe bet.  Very well made and an impressive label. Other choices could include sparkling (Ruinart Rose is very nice), Heitz Cellars-Marth's Vineyard is great, and there are for sure many others.  Honestly however, if it were me on the recieveing end, I would prefer two bottles at a lower price but different and impressive.  I would love to receive a bottle of whit and a bottle of red.  Some thoughts would be:

Rustenberg Five Soldires Chard & Raats Cabernet Franc

Domaine Drouhin Laurene Pinot Noir & Shafer Red Shoulder Ranch Chard

Anakota 2001 950' & Chartogen taillet Champagne

Stags Leap Petite Syrah & Rombauer Chard

Duckhorn Merlot 2004 & Mulderbosch 2007 Sauvignon Blanc

I hope that helps!
