I have a new toshiba laptop with win vista. I am having problems with my hp photosmart 1000. Any suggestions?

I've found this blog post, which says that if you tell Vista that your printer is in fact an HP Desktop 500C it will work.
I haven't tried this since I don't own an HP PhotoSmart 1000, but its worth a shot.
