How to get a wild finch to eat and drink

I found a small yellow finch at work that hit a window.  Comforted him for couple hours, does not appear hurt.  Tried to release - flew right back at window and fell to ground.  I brought it home and have thistle and water in cage.  He just sleeps.  How do I get him to eat and drink?

Finches like to perch when they eat, so all the food should be accessible from the perch or hanging from the cage.

Your finch sounds sick, not injured. Here are some helpful links.
