Is white chocolate really chocolate?

Is white chocolate really chocolate? If yes, how come it's white when the cocoa beans are almost black?

A friend asked me yesterday (I'm probably going to be getting a large box of chocolates for Christmas...) and now all I can think of is getting some chocolate.

Since white chocolate contains neither cocoa solids nor chocolate liquor (cocoa mass), it is white and does not have the appearance of brown chocolate.

One advantage of white chocolate is that it contains no caffein because it does not contain any cocoa solids.  Caffeine is only found in the cocoa solids and other ingredients of chocolate that give it the characteristic brown color. In contrast to white chocolate, dark chocolate contains the largest amount of caffeine, because it contains the largest amount of cocoa solids.

Yes, white chocolate is made from the cocoa butter part of the cocoa bean, but contains no other ingredients from the bean. Vanilla flavoring is added and sugar to make it taste sweet.

it is cocoa butter, so it isnt the same as normal chocolate but it is still from the same plant, so it is a kind of chocolate.

technically white chocolate is not chocolate at all because chocolate requires 2 ingredients to be considered chocolate: cocoa butter and cocoa powder, both of which come from the cacao plant.  white chocolate only has cocoa butter. it is still called chocolaet because it is sweet and creamy and tastes deliciouson the other hand, the more cocao powder a piece of chocolate has, the better it is for you, however the less sweet it is.  for a truly delicious piece of dark chocloate try Godiva's Midnight Swirl, 85% cocoa not bitter at all it is truly a piece of heaven or go gor the White Ganache Bliss for the all white chocloate piece
