There are different ways of controlling your dreams, most of which are different type of meditation before sleep which are supposed to keep you aware while dreaming. It's pretty easy to learn, so this might be a good thing for you to try if all you want is to not have the dream again.
However, I think that would not be a good thing to do, it sounds to me like the problem here is not the dream, but dealing with a traumatic childhood experience. I think that you have the dream because you don't have any other outlet for the emotions you felt back then. I think that exploring the dream and dealing with different aspect of your childhood (through therapy or by other means) would probably help you both deal with your life and stop the dream.
Until you do that, everything else would just be taking care of the symptoms instead of dealing with the problem.
