In week 11, the external genitalia is developing, although it's still too soon to tell if you are having a girl or boy by ultrasound.

The ultrasound is generally done during the 20 -28 week range. Remember they can't always tell, they aren't always right, and sometimes their office policies are not to tell.

Based on my experience, the baby's sex can be determined as early as the 4th month but my OB suggested we have the ultrasound on the 5th month just to be sure. But don't rely too much on the ultrasound -- life can just surprise you at then end of 9 months. I have a friend who was expecting a boy but had a girl instead.

I had both my ultrasounds between 21 and 23 weeks
