Dear Mr/Ms Boodup:
First of all, if I can say this in the nicest possible way, it's generally a good idea if you want to launch a web business, to have worked out exactly who your target audience and how you plan to market and promote the concept to them in order to ensure take-up and success, ahead of launching it.
I'm going to presume this was in fact part of your planning process, and that asking this question on Yedda is just a way of gathering more ideas to supplement your own.
First of all, in order to market Boodup effectively, you need to decide who your core target market is. Obviously, in theory, your concept is for 'everyone', but in order to market efficiently and effectively, you need to identify a 'bullseye' target of those people whom you believe will find the site most compelling and useful, in order to build up a core loyal user base who will in turn spread the word and drive interest, receptivity and trial amongst a broader audience.
Your core target might be defined demographically - eg, you might feel that younger people age 18-24 might be most inclined to want to 'buddy up', although you might equally feel that older people age 40-60 might find it hard to find others to share their interests/activities and could be a productive core target (I'm just saying this to give you examples of what I mean). It might be defined geographically or attitudinally - eg, you might feel that people who have relocated for work or education reasons to urban areas and feel lonely will be most in need of 'buddying up', or you might feel that people who live in farflung rural areas will be most in need of finding people to share interests, or that people who pursue sporting or recreational activities that demand 'buddies' to pace/help, eg long distance running or scuba diving, will be most in need.
This will then help you identify how best to reach these people in the places that reflect their interests and their attitudes, in the most interesting and compelling way.
It is important in a marketing context too that your site is working as hard as it possibly can once your target market gets there, to hook them in, keep them and get them to sign up.
You might want to consider a couple of things:
- I suspect English may not be your first language? (Forgive me if I'm mistaken here) There are some grammatical errors and linguistic awkwardness on the site which I would suggest you correct as soon as possible to ensure an impression of professionalism and credibility.
- It would help capture the imagination of visitors to the site if you could provide several compelling examples of what 'buddying up' could mean. You cite a number of examples - I would recommend expanding on the more interesting of them in more detail, and getting some existing Boodup users to post testimonials on the homepage, with photographs, talking about how they have used Boodup in interesting ways. (If you are so early in the site's lifecycle that you don't have many users, then lean on your development team, friends and family to do this.)
I hope this helps, and wish you the very best of luck with Boodup.
