I just read a post in techcrunch about the 2008 US election and how web 2.0 influences it (Especially for Ron Paul). It made me wonder, is the web really starting to influence a majority of Americans on the big decisions in life?
I think that the web has already started to influence the majority of Americans on the big decisions in life. Back in web 1.5 during the last election the blogs really started discussions, and made enough impact that their coverage on the elections, and other political issues, started getting reported in the mainstream media. I believe that the blogs influence the outcome of the last election, and that web2.0 only makes that influence imbedded in more aspects of people's lives.
Yes, I think that people are becoming more informed and also more active in politics and with world events. I think that especially young adults, the new "internet generation" are using the internet for just about everything. We use the internet to find jobs, to research just about anything, for school-work, to connect to the world via e-mail, etc. Computer networks such as the facebook, I believe, are changing the world even more. People are more in touch with people from their past and more well rounded as to what other people are interested in. I think we can safely assume that the majority of at least young Americans are absolutely relying on the computer and using it to make major life decisions.
