I believe that there is no difference between a hurricane and a cyclone. Cyclones are actually types of hurricanes. They are centers of low pressure that are surrounded by closed isobars. The pressure is extremely low at the center and increases outwards. Thus the wind flows from the rim to the central core. Due to the Coriolis Effect, the winds move in an anticlockwise direction in the northern hemisphere and in a clockwise direction in the southern hemisphere. From a locational point of view, hurricanes are classified as: Tropical Cyclones which originate between the tropics, and Extra-Tropical Cyclones which originate beyond the tropics.
