will not wearing eye protection one time in a stand up tanning booth damage my eyes or does it take repeated exposure?

I would never ever want to risk it, even once. Your eyes are probably the most important part of your body, since you need them everyday to function normally. Life without sight is very limiting, so don't put yourself in the position where you are risking your eye sight at all. It's not worth it.

Never give up on life.

One time without protection can be the start of major damage to your eyes. I would suggest if you don't have goggles or some form of protection, not to tan that day. It's not worth destroying your eyesight to be a little tanner for a few more days.
