Is there a way to find out if a mirror is distorting?

There are mirrors that make me look more fat and mirrors that make me look more thin. How can I find out if a mirror is distorting?

I seems that you can check if you are looking at a skinny mirror if you use a very straight ruler or something of the sort, you should move it around and check for non even surpasses.

this site explains about an imaginary skinny mirror detection device
