Is there a way I can take aspirin to avoid GI bleeding?
I have a number of GI issues, i.e. Peptic Ulcer Disease and Ulcerative Colitis. However, I was given Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPI) to protect my stomach while on aspirin therapy in 2004. I stopped taking the aspirin earlier this year because I had to stopped taking Zantac, the replacement for the PPIs, because it aggravated my gallbladder disease. I would only take the aspirin, sporadically because it caused stomach upset. I then was given enteric-coated aspirin and I took it with food. That worked for a while, but lately, I noticed blood in my stool after taking just one baby aspirin. I thought taking it with milk would stop the GI bleeding. It didn't. Does any one know what could stop this? I'm on aspirin therapy because of Cardiovascular issues.
