A:If they were on land something would eat them. In the water they can swim away. It is also easier for them to find food in the water. The closest land mammals would be something like seals and walruses, and they have a very hard time protecting themselves from land predators. The lack of legs and claws is a great disadvantage for the dolphins on land.
