can you watch a blu-ray disc on regular dvd player. I have a 2 year old DVD player, nothing fancy. I want to buy Pinocchio for the grandkids and they, like everyone else, will be going to blu-ray in future - but no one has a blu-ray player now. can we still view the movie on my old dvd player?

No you can't. You need a blu ray player. These days, you can get it for under $100 or the most laptops support Blu ray. You can also rent blu ray discs from Blockbuster or Netflix. You can find more info. from Blu ray Rentals
