My washing machine wont heat the water to do a hot ...

My washing machine wont heat the water to do a hot wash. I cant afford to pay someone to fix it, so was wondering if anyone can help me with any tips on what the problem could be so i can try to repair it myself, or at least buy the parts myself to reduce the cost. Many thanks......Anjie
