I want to put lyrics to music that doesn't have lyrics

I have decided to write lyrics to a song that I love. This song does not have lyrics . I am writing this song to my husband of 25 years. ( as a gift for his 50th birthday) I have written most of the lyrics but don't know how to put it altogether.

How does one fit the lyrics into the music and how do you decide on a refrain? or would this be too difficult task to attempt?

Besh visits Marsalis in New York at Jazz at Lincoln Center and attends the Montreal Jazz Fest for Marsalis' performance of Congo Square. Then the two meet in New Orleans and visit Congo Square, the historic New Orleans gathering place that served as an inspiration for Wynton's music.
