Diabetic Nerve Pain is caused by damage to your nerves. It is also known as Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy, or DPN. DPN is often found in people with diabetes who have high blood sugar levels over time. Your doctor may be able to help you get better control of your blood sugar level. This may help prevent more nerve damage.
If you have nerve pain, it may be hard to do simple things like dressing, walking, or even just lying down.
Some people with DPN may have symptoms that include:
- Tingling in the toes and ankles
- Burning in the feet that gets worse at night
- Pain when wearing shoes or standing
Your pain could also be the result of ill fitting shoes or other foot problems.
Talk to your physician about this. He may adjust your medicine or recommend you see a podiatrist.
I hope that Dr. James did not scare you to much or put you into a panic about heart disease. Although I have never heard of having pains in the foot is a sign of heart problems or seen such information in any research, people with diabetes should have their heart checked on a regular basis.
Good luck and best wishes!
