It will depend on the social networking site you choose, like myspace, yuwie, hi5 or facebook; if you upload pictures of yourself too & of course socialize with others, you will make friends.

Visibility is good in social networking but we cannot create back links. If you are aiming just visibility then SMO is the best!

I agree with the above posters, you will only increase your visibility if you are active on the social network. It also has to be a relevant social networking platform. For example, if you are looking to increase your customers you need to find a relevant network. If you sell saddles, join a Horse Enthusiasts social network etc. Hope that helps.
