You never mentioned needing good gas mileage per gallon, so maybe I am off-base with this answer, but having been recently car-shopping myself I found this mileage lookup site to be extremely helpful fueleconomy.gov
Also I saw craigslist was already mentioned but you can also search backpage , bluebeanstalk and kijiji .
