First you need the jacks from your VHS and DVD recorder to your computer , then you need to go to the web site and download the  video converter software to covert the type of files you want to your computer there is free converter software program. I have the  free video converter software at freeware.com I have transfered all of VHS to CD/DVD on my DVD recorder, I've taken those DVD's and transfered those files to my business , home and laptop computer
