My vet is of the firm opinion that dogs only get ...type 1 or 2 confused

My vet is of the firm opinion that dogs only get type 1. I'm not so sure I agree. But anyway, I'm having trouble understanding your article. Are you saying there are 2 types of diabetes, namely insipidus, and mellitis? And,are you saying that mellitis is then classified as type 1 or type 2? If this is what you are saying, then how is insipidus classified?, neither type 1 or 2, but something different entirely? Thinking back to when my small dog was diagnosed nearly 2 yrs. ago I could swear I saw a notation that it was mellitis type 2, though now i cannot find that notation anywhere. The vet I went to recently was firm in saying dogs do not get type 2. I have been reading a lot about diabetes, and I cannot say I understand it all very well, but I have been under the impression that type 2 means that the cells are unable to absorb the insulin that is produced, whereas in type 1, insulin is simply not produced (or not enough )ie, problem with the pancreas. I'm not certain, but I also thought that I understood diabetes insipidus to be what they called Type 2 (a problem with absorbtion of insulin). I am curious, are you a vet? What is your expertise in this field? Just in case I do not find my way back to this web site, I'd like to hear from you anyway. Please reply to testms973@gmail.com Thanks
