I don't understand my credit report!

Who can help me understand the terminology on my credit report FREE?? Some accounts are "closed" but are over 7 years old and still on my report.  I want to repair my credit report, which I have, but am not sure what to pay and what not to.  Is there someone or someplace that will work with you, account by account, and explain exactly what it means and what to do?  I have 11 accounts in question, some are ok and some are old and "closed" and some are not yet 7 years old but "closed" so I don't understand what I should do.  Thank you in advance for your help. :)

Everything I say can be fully substantiated by my own opinion.

The length of time something can stay on your credit report can depend on:

1-The type of debt   2-How the account was closed (paid off by you, as part of a settlement, unpaid, etc.)  3-When the lender last reported to the credit bureau on this account  4-Where you live.

In most places, unpaid debt may stay on the report for 7 years + 180 days.  Bankruptcy stays for 10 years.

If you need counseling, try www.nfcc.org/FirstStep/firststep_03.cfm   It is supposedly free or low cost.
