Detecting imitation UGG boots can be difficult to do. The counterfeiters are quite good at making a replica product that look just like the real deal. My personal belief is that they just keep the factories running for an extra shift (since most are now manufactured in China anyway).

The easiest way to tell by inspecting the sole. It should be flexible and not heavy. The traction ribbing on the bottom should also be flush with the top and bottom flatter parts. Sometimes they also have over exaggerated traction lines, thicker soles than normal, may feel heavier, etc. The sole is actually the hardest part to copy, and will be even harder starting in Fall 2009 as the manufacturer introduces a new sole based on the UGG sun logo.
