Love is the battery of life....

Hi,

Ubuntu and Vista are 2 different worlds.  No way to decide which one is better.  It's like asking what is better: a bus, a private car or a motorbike ? (it all depends what you need it for: If you need a bus the others are no use for you, if you need a motorbike the others are no good for you, etc).  Same applies to Ubunto and Vista: It all depends on the applications and what you use the comuter for.  Ubunto is perfect for Linex, very reliable, highly recommended as an engineering station.  Windows is more suitable for the "normal / common applications".
Best regards

There are numerous factor in determining which operating system is better but it all boils down to one fact - does it fit your needs?

If it does, considering all factors (hardware support, applications, speed, maintainability, etc) can help you get a more educated answer to your question.

On a more objective note, it seems that Ubuntu (and specifically Xubuntu which is lighter than Ubuntu) can run better on older hardware which is almost an impossible task (depending on how old the hardware is) to accomplish on Vista (if possible at all).

So in that sense, on older hardware that cannot run Vista, Ubuntu 7.10 (and more specifically Xubuntu) is better than Vista.

See my site at roycebarber.com and my art at DeviantArt . I love God . I like Ubuntu OS .

in 2007 and 2008 i have got many people (of every kind) to use ubuntu as their only OS.

i do this not just because i like what upuntu stands for and promotes, but becacuse with ubuntu i do not have to repair my friends computers nearly as much as with windows/osx.

the latest ubuntu is made for humans, its not what one would think of as "Linux" at all. linux used to be just for geeks, but ubuntu (partly because of google) has been updated to be easier than any other os.

people say mac is the easiest, but i say it is not. besides, ubuntu is free.

you are right in all that you say, but i feel like the world unfairly thinks of ubuntu as just another "linux" os. ubuntu is its own world, and its a beautiful one.

my ubuntu currently looks exactly like vista and runs many times as fast.

If a person cares for simplicity and things such as costs, then Ubuntu is better then Vista.  I would say, if you include those two for xp, ubuntu would win.

I'm not a tech guru as many here are.  I really like Unbuntu.  I used the Wubi installer:

http://wubi-installer.org/ to put it on my Windows based Gateway laptop.  This has

only 1gb of ram and Windows boots slow but Unbuntu is as fast as a lion.  The Wubi

method allows you to check it out and decide if its for you.  It can be removed easily

and doesn't seem to damage Windows at all.  In fact when you turn your machine on

its asks what OS you want.

That said; Unbuntu has issues.  Many wireless setups just don't work.  I've read

because some makers of wireless internal and external cards won't share their

drivers, etc.  with Linux designers.  I found a D-Link that worked so its cool.

Better then Vista, maybe.  Different for sure.  Think about this:  Windows 7 is

out.  At first it was a free download and use for a few months.  Now its $50.00.

Its great from all accounts but compare $50.00 to Ubuntu's price 'free'

Try the Wubi method out for yourself.
