I have gotten such mixed reviews of different kinds of birth controls. I want the truth. What are the pros and cons of taking birth control? What are some possible side effects?

anything goes

The pros and cons of birth control vary for each woman so the best thing is for you to go and see your GYN and discuss it with them.  If you live in the US, you can also find out clinic locations through Planned Parenthood: 1-800-230-PLAN.

I'm the type of girl who will burst out laughing in dead silence because of something that happened yesterday.

I personally have been taking birth control for almost 5 years. It helps regulate my period and keeps my skin clear. I have heard that some women gain weight on it but I personally did not. I think the only thing I hate is having to remember to take the pill once a day.

If you are thinking of taking ANY type of hormonal contraceptive, make sure you visit the website The Truth About Birth Control . The main dangers are:

  • Increased risk of blood clots
  • Muscle atrophy
  • Increased Lupus risk
  • Increased risk of breast cancer

Not to mention weight gain and other less deadly things

Hormonal contraceptives are the best and most effective and, while they may have some side effects, these are minor if you are not obese and do not smoke. The side effects of not using good contraception and ending up pregnant are much worse: abortion and unwanted children (which will keep you from advancing in your life).

If you want the truth about contraceptive implants, I've compiled a nice overview of user stories on using it as a form of birth control, read it here:
