I have a tree which I believe to be an Aspen. It ...

I have a tree which I believe to be an Aspen.  It is leaking some type of sap on the driveway which is attracting flies.  My neighbor thinks there is something that you can spray on the tree which will get rid of the flies.  Do you know what that might be?
