My daughter is travelling to India this year for a week in december. However, her passport expires end of Jan 2009. Do I need to renew her passport before travel and if so how long will this take??

A lot of countries will not let you enter without 3 months on your passport, but even if India is not one of them, it is not a good idea to be there so close the the passport expiring. It depends on where you live but passport renewal will not take more than 3-4 weeks.

Yes you do need to renew. Unlikely she can travel with less than 3 months on passport (at least that's what american airlines once told me.)
Yes you need to renew the pass port,immidiately,as your daughter is going to india to visit it so its necessary.
