RE: travel in Sicily

I know someone who just came back from there. He traveled on his own with no special problems. I believe that as a tourist you have nothing to worry about.

RE: travel in Sicily

I have been there two years ago and believe me you have nothing to worry about. I asked the same question before I left and I did some reading Sicily  has low crime rates. There are some gangsters but the mafia doesn't want to interfere with the local business. Taormina is considered a safe town. Furthermore like I would recommend to all tourists don't look too much as a tourist. Have a great time she is beautiful....

Here is some more info up to date.

RE: travel in Sicily

It is certainly very safe to cruise around as a tourist in Sicily, the only problems you might have would be: 1. getting lost in some remote areas - in this case you should get a GPS. 2. finding English speakers - but if you're ready to grab a few basic words, Sicilians are extremely hospital and happy to show their land to tourists.

In case you want some private tour guides to some special areas: catacombs, or the Etna vulcano,... check here:

RE: travel in Sicily

Hi! I'm Italian and I can confirm that travelling in Sicily is safe! Maybe you will have some problems to find anyone speaking a good english but we Italians are very friendly, and people from Sicily is even more friendly then us, living in the North (I'm from Milan).

If you wish to see good pictures of all the beautiful places you can see in Sicily have a look at Globopix: http://www.globopix.net/fotografie/sicilia.html

Enjoy your trip!
