Always know what you want.

I checked the PATH official website and I don't see any PATH train from Edison to Manhattan. I visited a friend of mine at Rutgers University once and if I remember correctly, we took the NJ Transit line to Manhattan from New Brunswick, which I believe is one stop after Edison leaving from Manhattan. I'd suggest just showing up to the station and asking one of the attendants what train takes you to Manhattan. Enjoy your trip.
