What is the best time to travel to NYC in the winter?

What is the best time in the winter to travel to New York City? Is Christmas time too crowded with many tourists? Is it difficult to find a place to stay that is not too expensive?

If you are going to NYC in Winter, there is no doubt the best time is around Christmas.  New York is just beautiful with the decorations, the store fronts, and if you are going to endure the chill you may as well enjoy the season.  Go ice skating in Rockefeller Center or Central Park and just have a blast.

Don't forget to try the roasted chestnuts.

Agree, if Winter is when you are coming to NYC then December is really special with the lights, decorations and shows.

However, my favorite time is Fall.  No humidity, sunny days, and not-too-cold weather make it very special.

It depend on what you like doing while traveling. Christmas is indeed beautiful, I live in NY and I don't feel as if there are too many tourists.

If you like shopping then Christmas and the short period after Christmas is really great. The time after Christmas is probably the best time for concert, show tickets, museums and so on, anything cultural is going to be cheaper and less crowded.

However - it's really really cold! NY is a wonderful city to get to know on foot and if you want to do that, then winter's not the best season at all - try spring or fall or my favorite - Summer!

Whatever season you go to NY in, it's always a fun cool city to visit and I don't think any time is better then other, there are always new and exciting things to do here.

Why wait until tomorrow to do what you could be doing today?

New York anytime is great. There are always tons of people to meet and while there may be more tourists around the holiday season, it should only add to your NY experience. What would NY be without its tourists anyways! haha

But seriously, NY to begin with kind of expensive so it may be a little more difficult to find a place to stay. I would suggest checking out some of the hostels as they can be a ton of fun in experiencing NY. You can check out some of them as well as hotels here.

Happy holidays!

MY inferiority complex isn't as good as YOURS

Try to get a hotel room a little outside of Manhattan,it's cheaper. You can take the subway which is fun for tourists, not so much for those of us that live here. It's alot less expensive than a cab and the subway can be...interesting to say the least.
