If you are a beginner, go to the craft store or wal-mart and they have a tie dye kit that you can purchase. I believe they have small kits and all the instructions. This would be cheaper for the beginner that isn't sure if they will like doing therir own. Yes, with the kits it is easy. Just remember to pick up a package of medium size rubberbands. Heavy duty at least 4 inches long work best. The ones in the kit and weak and break when you use them. Our VBS group did about 50 for the people attending vacation Bible school. It was great fun and no two shirts were alike. Each teacher chose special colors for her own class. How Cool is That.
