Love is the battery of life....

Hi,

No, it's not OK and shouldn't be permited... When the teacher is trying to teach all students have to try and understand..... eating disturbs both to the one who eats and to the students next to him too....  students should respect their teachers and eating (or even chewing a gum) is sure not a sign of respect.
Best regards,

I think doing any other activity than paying attention to the teacher and to the class in general, can be counteractive to learning and it may also go against the teacher´s and class norms.

I too agree that the act of eating is degrading . I think that all attention should be  pointed to the teacher .  I also think that the length of the class session should be taken in consideration. We all are familiar with the problem of students paying attention some kids have concentration problems and some of us just get tired. A small snack bar  or at least drinking should be permitted in a 2 hour class.

It is downright disrespectful to the teacher and to the students and to accompanying books and notebooks that can be easily stained and covered with crumbs.

Hi,

I really think it's a cultural issue. In some societies it's probably one of the rudest things a student can do. On the other hand there are some countries where it is probably normal conduct and completely acceptable.

Another thing to think about is that there isn't always an organized lunch break and therefore students find themselves starving in the middle of a lecture. I think that losing concentration, thanks to hunger, isn't the most desirable thing.
SmithDerik's point regarding food being a concentration booster is also a good one.

Have a nice day.

I think eating food in the class room isn't disrespectiful as long as you're willing to share, not eating your food loudly, and discard your trash properly. For most high school students eating in the class room in the best way for them to pay attention because when they're hungry thats more likely to get their attention then a lecture their teachers giving.  Some students may get distracted to easliy when they eat but thats why they'd have the choice to eat or not. Now I do believe it'd be disrespectful to eat a whole meal or make a big scene with the food but snackin on something little is perfectly ok.  I believe that its ok for highschool students to have the option of eating in class because they are capable of eating without gettin distracted but for a elementry student they shouldn't be able because they are more likely to get distracted.
