Dear Sis: (July 2009): First of all I want to tell you how much I love you and how I can never see life without you. And I am sure you said all the things on the telephone that night because you were mad at me.
Now getting back to what you said about the clothes that I purchased. Yes there are many clothes there that are awful and I would not dress my dog in them (if I had a dog). And when you called them junk I felt as if you were criticizing my purchases.
But I have purchased so many beautiful clothes there. And when you look at what I am wearing you cannot tell that I spent only a $1.00. I have the knack to pick out the great quality stuff, I would never ever buy the crap.
I used to feel the same way you did about purchasing clothes there until December 21,2007 when I went in to the 99cent store to buy some cleaning supplies and I saw a whole bunch of people by the racks. I stopped to see what was going on and to my amazement I saw sweaters that were in tip top shape. And that is when I got hooked.
Yes in a department store all the clothes are new and yes at the dollar store many times you have to hunt for the good stuff, but many days you can get many beautiful things.
Dont knock it until you actually go there. And if you do you cannot go just one time because the first time you may not see anything (but then again you might) and the second time you could see many things.
When I first started going I asked the manager if they just started doing this and he said no - that they have been doing it for two years and it is a very big hit - from poor people to very rich. And he knows they are rich because he talks to the customers and has known them for a long time and knows where they live and what they do for a living.
You told me during the course of the conversation on August 5, 2008 the following and I quote: "I am not putting the clothes down I am just curious. I was just asking. All you had to say was the following 'I like them and I prefer to shop at the 99 cent store"
Then we had a nice discussion. You told me that it really should not matter what other people think. That even though you would never buy in the 99 cent store that doesn't mean that I should stop. And that even though you do not like Macy's there are people who shop in Macy's that doesn't meant these people are wrong for shopping at Macy's. The same thing with the 99 cent store. That there are people who shop at the 99 cent store and like it. You also said that if I went to Sephora's with you and you purchased a lot of lipstick I would think that you are crazy. But you would not care because you like makeup. Also you told me that I always dresses nicely
