What do you think could be changed in our society to make it better for everyone? more freedom of choice, less? better environment? more control less? any thoughts you have on how you think society could be better run?
It's possible to take back some of our privacy so that our government is not spying on everyone. It's possible to do more to separate Church and State which has become more and more intertwined in the past couple of decades, stepping on Constitutional rights. It's possible to improve the lot of animals, making this a kinder society. It's possible to cover everyone with national health care. It's possible to turn around this economy and put people back to work. It's possible to influence our governement to take up these causes. It's just hard, because our Congress, Senate and President are bought by big business which includes big religion.
"Without self-restraint, we cannot have self-government"
We should take back all of our privacy. Those politicians in Washington D.C. have no business with our information. And, just so you'll know, the Census for 2010, it supposed to get the GPS coordinates on every house in America. What a sneaky ploy to further control us. There is no mention of the separation of church and state in the Constitution. If you find it, let me know. The Democrats created the lie and people perpetuate it. This country was founded on Christian principals and was a better country as a result. The Constitution guarantees us the Freedom of Religion not separating Church and State. To do that means we can't have a Christian as a President. I don't know what you're saying about animals and making this a kinder society, (we were a kinder society when we had the Christian standards and we didn't spare the rod.) It's not possible to have a successful national healthcare program. Checkout the Medicare and Medicaid, they're broke and wraught with corruption. It's the middle class paying for the people that don't want to work or get their own health care. The free-lunch crowd will always go for socialism. Leave the economy alone and it will turn around. All of these taxes to stimulate the economy will collapse it. Economies rise and fall. These are natural cycles. It's when the politicians get involved that delays recovery. Roosevelt delayed recovery by seven years and the media makes him look like a hero. Obama is trying that too. He know the American people will rekindle the economy if he leaves it alone. The government, national government, shouldn't tamper with any causes. Look, you have to get sharper at learning what we are as a nation. We were given a republic by the founding fathers. We weren't the United States; we were the united States. With that said, we were 13 states, each sovereign and autonomus. We're suppose to be 50 individual states. It's the Federal Politicians who want the power that makes people think that we are theirs for the taking. The States created the Federal Government to take care of Interstate Commerce and National Defense to include the borders. There's no requirement for the Feds to take power from a state. Check it out. The framers of the Constitution knew why they only wanted to give a two-year hitch to the House; a six-year hitch to the Senate, and a four-year hitch for the president. The politicians need to be removed. They've all drank the Cool-Aid. Two years is two years, not 33 to 50 years. Let's move them out and let some smart people come in.
You can lead a horse to water but you can not make the xucker drink "never"
the world is being changed right now under your very feet with the collapse of communism and the rise of china india former soviet union to name but a few billion there are simply not the resources there for a free market economy to operate smoothly.. every one wants a slice of the cake ..but it is just not big enough so look forward to years of misery, economic wars, terrorism and chaos, ps (prob be Africa for next day trip to war) from stugod
Your question is a very broad one as a whole. However I think that people need be more involved at all levels of what goes on with us as a society. Everyone should be more rounded: What I mean is this; we have to stop relying on someone else to tell us how we should live, work, play, interact, socialize or even worship for that matter. Common sense is the key to a lot of simple things we can do. Showing more respect for each other even though we are different in all aspects: Color, Religion, Politics, Economics, you name it we are all different. But that should not keep us from being invovled especially when it comes to the Media, Congress, and all other matters. We need less government involvement in our everyday lives. We need to keep everything in perspective. And we need to keep things simple. We need to find out about issues when they are being fed to us instead of taking someone Else's word for it as if they are all knowing and all seeing. They are not God nor did they create this Wonderful World we live in. Look around you at all the Marvels of this great Planet we live on. And yet people are believing all this Global Warming (BS). I wonder why. Have we become that naive that we just believe what ever the media, congress, the president and whoever is telling us without finding out for ourselves. That's what we need more of. Individuality is what made this country and our people great not the herd factor. Seems our Congressional leaders think the same about the people, like we can't think for ourselves we them to do it for us. And I for one do not need those so called elected people, whom are suppose to represent the people, and all they do is push legislation that is more beneficial for them and their donators than they are for the people that elected them. Does this make sense to you? I hope I have been somewhat helpful. I could go on and on but all I can say at the end of this is (KISS); Keep-It-Simple-Stupid. Take care and God bless.
I think that the answer to this question is simple. If one takes a good, hard look at every social problem known to humankind throughout the history of the world, the causes can be traced back to one, single entity: that is, "Authority." And, by, "Authority," I mean, specifically, government and religion, although there are more minor versions of authority as well. By nature, authority is corrupt. It seeks to control, take and even kill. The ones on the receiving end of authority just keep getting pounded harder and harder into the ground. With this relentless pounding comes the development of human low self-esteem. When one has no esteem for oneself, one has no esteem for anyone else, either. And, from human low self-esteem, comes all of the social problems known to man. You name the social problem. Authority is the cause. I honestly believe that all human beings are innately good. However, I believe that authority and its detriments cause people to be bad. Therefore, the way to make society better is to eliminate authority. I think that the United States should go to a, "protection-only government." We need protection of our physical bodies. We need protection of our property. We need protection of our national borders. I also think that we need to maintain a good road system. Other than that, I cannot think of anything that the government can do that the private sector cannot do 100% better. And, that includes humanitarian efforts to take care of our less fortunate fellowmen. Ultimately, authority seeks to take your life. If former president, George Bush, thought that he could make an extra penny per barrel of oil by sending your child to Iraq to be slaughtered, he would have no qualms about it whatsoever. And, anyone who thinks otherwise is sadly mistaken.
The United States has remained relatively insulated from the ravages of authority up until approximately the last decade. When American sustenance (food, shelter, clothing and transportation) remains intact with perhaps a little extra for leisure and entertainment, people are generally contented. Since the Great Depression, Americans have not experienced threats to their sustenance until the Bush Administration. Rising gasoline prices threatened our transportation. The mortgage crisis continues threatening our shelter. Government policies on importing poisoned food from, namely, China threatens our food supply. Thus, it is only now that our sustenance is being threatened that Americans are starting to get pissed off at authority. I hope and pray with all of my heart that the same light bulb goes off over the collective American head that went off over East Germany's collective head approximately a few decades ago. That is, the collective thought was something to the effect of, "Hey! There are a whole Hell of a lot more of us than there are of them and, if we don't want to live this way, WE DON'T HAVE TO!" East Germany gave their communist government a cumulative, FUCK YOU!, and Voila! Down came the Berlin Wall!
Likewise, we Americans do not have to put up with our Authority's shit either. For example, presently, there are approximately 60 million Americans without healthcare coverage (roughly a third of our population). Approximately two to three million bankruptcies are filed in the U.S. every year. A third of those bankruptcies are due to catastrophic illness and resultant unpayable medical bills. In fact, the leading cause of homelessness in the U.S. is catastrophic illness. And we call this a, "Civilized Country?" It is a well known fact that health insurance companies drive up the costs of healthcare. Well, guess what? Why don't all of us Americans refuse to buy health insurance? Period! The health insurance companies would go out of business and the medical industry would be forced to charge for its services what Americans can afford: that is, if it wants to stay in business. The medical industry would adjust and healthcare professionals would still make their fat salaries. Problem solved!
The U.S. is still a democracy. We Americans have the power to make our country the way we desire it to be: "The Land of the Free." But, we are not free anymore. We may still be freer than most other countries in the world. However, we have relinquished much of our freedom to authority. The nature of authority is that it is self-perpetuating. The way it keeps itself in existence is by continually creating problems so that it and continually solve the problems it creates. So, I'm afraid that the only way to get back our freedom is through a revolution. America hasn't had a revolution for 233 years. If one reads the opening paragraphs of America's, "Declaration of Independence,"---our founding fathers' allegations against King George of England---one would swear it is describing our present government to a tee. Therefore, I'd say it's high time for a revolution. In fact, I'd say it's long overdue. "And, that's what I did on summer vacation..."
Look in the mirror, what can you do to help others?
Get people interested in their inner city politics, how and who is running. Make ways for our younger generation to occupy themselves, ie: parks, after school activities. Show them that we CARE ABOUT THEIR FUTURE.
Be Thankful
Speak softly
Let your love shine...
It would help a great many things if we could all begin to think before we speak and to put the welfare of our fellowman before our own.
Think of others before yourself in situations small and large.
Do not lie...EVER.
And cultivate patience and humility.

A couple of things come to mind right off the bat. Healthcare for all who want it. College for all who want it. Super strict environmental laws. Life in jail for hate crimes. Those are just a few that I'd institute if I could.
