Labeling can be dangerous, especially self-labeling because it could categorize you into the wrong category. In other words, I don't think you should think you are suffering panic attacks as described in the web. Speak to your grade adviser in school or to your physician for a referral to someone who could help you. Only a professional could help you. You did however take the first correct step by asking.

A good Gestalt psychotherapst or CBT psychotherapist can help you with your panic attacks. You can try helping yourself, but usually you need help by a therapist.

panic attacks run in my family. My mom and my brothers and i all have them. First find a good therapist. Your school counselor might be able to find you one that works with teens. And get on a good stress managment and or anit anxiety pills. Your therapist will also teach you how to manage the panic attacks when you do have them. Trust me seeing a therapist is the first step and you will feel so much better. I wish you good luck!

If you could see what I've seen with your eyes.....

Everyone has the right answer - talk to your doctor and see a therapist who deals with panic attacks!  I am a panic attack sufferer myself and have learned how to tell when one is coming on and to take steps to head it off at the pass.  I do take meds when I have an attack and they do help.  First it's important to understant what a panic attack is in your own physiological/psychological makeup, and you need a person trained to help with that.   At your age, the first person (after your parents) that you can talk to is your guidance counselor.  You should also bring this up with your primary physician.  Panic attacks are not a sign of weakness or mental illness!  You've taken the first step - congratulations.

Since you haven't listed any of your symtpoms, it's hard to tell if panic/anxiety disorder is possibly afflicting you. I'm a recipient of this illness and I'm also a psych major. I'd recommend making an appointment with a counselor (or even talking to a counselor at school) and the intake interview will give you and them some insight into what the issue is. Sleep IS a major factor with this illness-if my sleep isn't that good for a few nights in a row, I can feel my anxiety get way out of whack and it really has a profound effect on my functioning throught the day. I used to take sleep meds, but I have 2 children & if they happen to wake up during the night, I have to be able to function. While I took them, though, they worked well and I felt good when I woke up in the morning. If you are suffering from anxiety or panic, there are many different forms of treatment that you can benefit from. You should definitely talk to a professional and take it from there. Pick a therapist that you are comfortable with, for that will help you out as well. Good luck and if you need someone to talk to, I'm here! You may not need medication, so before you even consider it, try some of the behavioral therapies that are offered.
