I have a few friends that are alcoholics and all of them have similar backgrounds. All of them had one parent/close relative who were drunk all the time when they were growing up. I think it has to do with some subconscious need to fix what they couldn't as a kid.

Undecided Teens and alcohol, is a serious problem this day and age. Yes some are from the alcoholic families, others just drink to be able to fit in. If they go to a party and theres alcohol there they will most likely drink, and most of them will over drink to the point of being sick, just because 1. they want to show they can hang with everyone else. and 2. because they haven't drank to the point of making themselves sick.

So yes, and no, its not " ROOTED" in teen yrs. it actually can go both ways

I think there is some truth in this saying . Like said before the family background is an important issue here, yet there are many cases of social pressures which lead one into drinking habits and they can develop even later. I know of a couple cases of people who haven't had any bad drinking habits and have developed some in their late 30's .

Teenagers are exposed to all the same drugs that adults use, but for a variety of reasons they are at a far greater risk to try, abuse and become addicted to them. Teens are far more likely to believe many drugs are safe, more likely to succumb to peer pressure or stress, and less likely to note their own addiction behaviors developing.

President Bush’s first radio address of March 2008 directly addressed the issue, releasing a 79 page report entitled the National Drug Control Strategy that, if the statistics are to believed, indicates that during the President’s years in office the abuse of every imaginable drug by teens, from cigarettes to heroin to LSD, has dropped significantly: 24% since 2001, across the board.

Surely any number of parents and addiction specialists would disagree.
