I think that most of the Japanese brands like Sony and Panasonic tend to have the best reputations. Really though, there isn't much of a difference. I would look for sales and look for the best buy you can get on a brand that you've at least heard of. If there's a warranty on the product, than you really don't have that much to worry about.
