Please explain more about binning on the CMOS. My understanding on the sum of a binned pixel group the pixel with the largest signal will dominate and the SNR is no better than non-binned. Also, color CFA requires binning in a Bayer pattern such that like CFA pixels are summed.
The analog binning as we do it takes the average (not the maximum) of a group. The SNR will improve as the SQRT of the number of pixels. In a Bayer pattern pixels of the same color are binned. http://www.cypress.com/?rID=29540
